Since last November, the installation Glacier Blocks has been on display at Turbinenplatz in Zurich. Created as part of ART FLOW, this work was conceived by the renowned Spanish artist Lara Almarcegui. Glacier Blocks reflects the multiple layers of transformation that have shaped the Limmat Valley, not only through the powerful forces of glaciers during the Ice Age but also through the materials they left behind — materials that have since been used by humans to build and further develop the valley.
Glacier Blocks creates a paradoxical and thought-provoking space, addressing discourses on nature, culture, and economy. In this panel discussion, Lara Almarcegui will engage in conversation with Philip Ursprung (Professor of Art and Architectural History at ETH Zurich), Linda Schädler (Head of the Graphic Collection at ETH Zurich), Catharina Dieleman (Geologist, University of Bern), and Christoph Doswald (Curator of ART FLOW) to explore the diverse aspects of an artistic practice operating at the periphery of the art system.
