Melanie Sterba - TAKE AWAY ART

Take Away Art
Melanie Sterba

As part of ART FLOW, artist Melanie Sterba has developed a project that questions both the public space and the economic mechanisms of the art industry. Take Away Art (Special Edition ART FLOW)” comprises ten different types of sculpture, which will be produced in a total edition of 10,000 pieces using the pewter casting process and distributed throughout the Limmat Valley over a period of twelve months. Sterba produces each individual miniature sculpture in her studio and places them in publicly accessible locations in the Limmat Valley.

Anyone who finds a Take Away Art sculpture can keep it or leave it where it is. Some place the artworks elsewhere – in another country or even on another continent. Others put them up at home, give them as gifts or start collecting them. The finder can request a certificate of authenticity via a QR code on the underside of the base.

Melanie Sterba is an extraordinary phenomenon in the current, highly digitalized art landscape. As a trained sculptor, she creates her works by hand from classic materials such as wood, stone or metal. Each of her sculptures bears the visible marks of the tools she uses – evidence of the dedication and authenticity of her work. Each work of art is unique and represents craftsmanship in its purest form.
